Trip to California…..from what I remember. Day one

At the end of June, Elizabeth and I along with our friends Larry and Janice, made the long trip to California for the San Diego Comic Con. we also planned on meeting up with other friends of our, Jay and Danielle, who would be there at the same time. The trip there was great and I saw a lot of things on the way that blew my mind. In a layover in Atlanta, I saw an electronics vending machine. No shit, I said an electronics vending machine! It had Ipods, psps, portable dvd players and other assorted do-dads. THere was a few different stores and food locations that neither of us had ever seen before. After our hour layover we departed to California without a hitch. I can say now that this was the only part of the flights that didn’t have a hitch involved, more on that later.

Upon arrival in California we rented a car and proceded to Hollywood CA. I took tons of pictures of the California landscape. Various pics of what buildings and foliage they have out there. I got pics of the swallows of Capistrano as well as the military base thats out there as well. We stopped there and fed the squirrels and watched the military do training exercises. Soon after we hit the road and continued to Hollywood!! I can tell you first hand that the traffic in Los Angeles is crazy. We got stuck here in there in traffice that would last for a few minutes, but with 4 to 5 lanes it would disperse rather quickly.

We arrived at the Kodak theater in a couple of hours. The place was fantastic and huge. There is a mall that is attached to the theater along with a hug courtyard and three level concert hall outside. The Kodak theater is where the do the oscars from every year. Across from the theater is the El Capitan theater and the Disney soda fountain store, a Virgin music store and of course along the whole street is the Hollywood walk of fame. Not far from the Kodak Theater is Manns Chinese THeater, which of course showed a little known movie back in 1977 that would go on to become one of the most know films of all time…..Outside of Mann’s the sidewalk is made of people hands and footprints along with their signatures. Elizabeth absolutley loved touching the place where Sinatra had his hands at. I of course was drawn to the Star Wars and Star Trek signatures. Later in the summer we would spend time with Dave Prowse, who played Darth Vader, and he explained that the Vader that stood as wel as signed the concrete wasn’t him at all and that the only person that has a legit signature is Anthony Daniels who played C3P0. I will tell more about our time with Dave later.

We left Hollywood Blvd and went looking for a place called Stan’s Donuts. I don’t know exactly where Stan’s is but I really wanted to go there. I know we had to go through Beverly Hills to get there. We saw all of the shots you see on tv, the palm trees, the green grass, the bums. Thats right I said bums, I have pictures to prove it. We found Stan’s and bought some donuts and stayed for a few and soaked up some of the local scenary. Stan’s is across from the Fox theater, which is where the often premiere movies at.

After Stan’s it was time to head to our hotel and call it a night. We after all had 9 days to spend in California and theis was just day one.

the happening….not so good

Last Friday I embarked to the movies for what would turn out to be the biggest waste of money ever…M.Night’s The Happening. This movie had promise being his first r rated flick and the ads were awesome. Little did I know that what I was going to see was a hour and a half long kill fest by an unseen danger. Yes I liked the fact that the story is based on scientific fact and yes I liked the way he blended the whole story together. What I didn’t care for is the movie itself. I passed up seeing the hulk for this over the great ads it had. I fell into the trap that most people fall into and that is his movies look really good but are marginally better thab the one before it.

KungFu Panda

A few weeks back I went to see KungFu panda. I love cartoons and this one looked good with lots of one liners. I was a little aprehensive of jack black voicing Po the panda but he pulled it off quite nice. He always seems to have great roles as long as you don’t make him perform out of his genre. Overall this flick is a lot like shrek as it is a cartoon aimed at kids with humor aimed at adults too. Give this on a shot as I am sure you will like it.
